Andrew Shillito's 40x1 Layout

Emlyn

Emlyn - A Welsh Narrow Gauge Journey

Emlyn was designed to take part in the 3mm 40th Anniversary 40 x 1 Challenge. The name derives from the Welsh town of Newcastle Emlyn, photos of which appear in Michael Welsh’s book, the photos ooze atmosphere and you can almost feel yourself there.

The layout is built to 3mm scale (is there any other?) and is to a gauge of 6.5mm. Some z gauge chassis are used. All locos are either scratchbuilt or have scratchbuilt bodies, many are over 25 years old. Wagons are made generally of plasticard. All track was planned out using Templot and is of pcb and 2mm Association rail, points are controlled with the much missed H&M point motors. Although built as a small layout it is intended that it should be extended and provide an exhibitable layout for shows.
